Inside Sexy Clowns
Sexy Clowns is an avant-garde body of work that is, at once, both striking and haunting.
The concept originates from Reisha’s desire to contrast societal beauty standards and sexuality with a familiar character viewed by many as comical and sometimes even intimidating. The models, make-up and props highlight and distort the lengths women go to in order to be “sexy enough” for themselves, other women and men.
A perusal of the cover of Sexy Clowns reveals slightly parted stiletto-clad feet leading up to ruffled boy shorts and décolletage-framing
brasserie. Prankish whiteface makeup covers her striking features and a fedora atop curly green hair completes her ensemble. In each
scene, the sensuality flaunted by the boudoir models in lingerie is juxtaposed against a jester’s garish make-up. “I think that it speaks
volumes about creativity. There are no limitations. As soon as you feel like you have it in a box, you don’t and this is one of the
things that epitomizes that,” pronounces Jamana, the cover model.
Sexy Clowns is the culmination of a shoot that evolved and created opportunities for incredible scenarios and styling. The models
are provocative and the sets interesting; Reisha’s skilled eye captures both the physical and emotional vulnerability of her
subjects in each frame. Her practiced lens transforms the gauche, rustic imagery of ordinary clownishness into eye-catching
portraits of female empowerment.
